Attending Convention for the first time?

Feeling a little overwhelmed by it all?
Not sure where to begin or if you should go?

Here are some questions to those answers and more.

Q: I am planning to homeschool for the first time next year – is the FPEA Homeschool Convention too big to attend the first year?
A: While FPEA is one of the larger conventions, it can definitely be done with fun and not be overwhelming. There workshops and speakers geared specifically for new homeschool families.

Q: How do I know what workshops to attend that won’t overwhelm me?
A: The Convention Program and website provide descriptions of the workshops that are offered. You can select workshops according to the grades you are teaching, curriculum you want to learn more about, and workshops that are going to inspire and support your homeschool experience.

Q: Should I come alone or bring my family?
A: FPEA offers many activities for families to come and be involved in the convention experience. Some people make it a family event and some make it a mom’s weekend with friends.

Q: How do I wade through all the exhibitors and curriculum choices?
A: Do your homework before you come. Print out the exhibitor list and research each exhibitor. Cross out the ones that don’t pertain to you. Highlight the ones that you want more information about and put an asterisk next to the ones that are a must see.

Q: Can you get the best deals at the convention?
A: Many vendors offer convention discount prices that you get only by attending the convention and usually won’t find anywhere else.

Q: What type of meals are available?
A: You may either venture out on your own and enjoy the restaurants within the resort or FPEA provides Get N’ Go meals for $18 for four people.

Q: I have so many questions and am just not sure who to ask – is there someone I can talk to?
A: Not a problem. Again this year we will have a Mentoring Moms booth at the Convention which will be staffed with veteran homeschool moms volunteering their time to answer and all of your questions.

Q: What is there for the kids to do while I am at the convention?
A: FPEA provides excellent programs for children and teens. The Convention website outlines pricing and other relevant information.

Be sure to visit the Convention section of the FPEA.com website and follow FPEA on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-the –minute information about all things Convention!

I am just starting this month to homeschool my son again. We are attending the convention and I will then be homeschooling my daughter who is in high school. We are new to florida so I am trying to learn all I can. Is there someone who can help with that. We live in Altamomte Springs. I am kinda overwhelmed right now…

    Christi,
You have lots of support at the FPEA! Definitely stop by the Mentoring Moms booth. For right now, check out the Starting Point on this website. Are there any immediate questions we can help you with? High School is LOT of fun to teach!

Christi – I also recommend getting in touch with the FPEA District Director for the area of Altamonte Springs (Seminole County, right?) – which I believe is District 6 and whom I believe is Trish Oliva: District 6 Director
covers: Lake, Volusia, Seminole & Sumter Counties

    phone: (407) 323-8119
