Thank you for checking back for updates regarding the 25th FPEA Florida Homeschool Convention. Today we want to remind you to sign your graduate up for the FPEA Statewide Graduation Ceremony, and to make you aware of a few changes for this year.
The ceremony is a time to celebrate Florida homeschool graduates as they proudly march down the aisle, marking a huge milestone in their education. Only FPEA members are eligible to participate — it’s another great reason to join the FPEA!
Just like the Convention with which it is held in conjunction, Graduation weekend gets bigger and better every year. The sooner you register for Graduation, which will be held Sunday, May 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. ($75 fee), the more time you’ll have to prepare for this multifaceted event. You can register online beginning January 31, 2012 at the Convention webpage (the deadline is April 1).
The Friday dinner/dance is a change from the Saturday event held in previous years. Again this year, the Graduation ceremony will be held on the Sunday morning after the Convention officially ends. A full program of activities for graduates and their families will continue as always and we are close to finalizing all of the details.
One detail concerning the ceremony itself that has been confirmed is that U.S. Representative Daniel Webster will speak. As a representative in the Florida Legislature in the 1980s, U.S. Rep. Webster sponsored the original Florida home education law.
The annual senior/alumni buffet dinner and dance will take place on Friday, May 25, with dinner starting at 8 p.m. and the dance at 10 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and dance cost $30 per adult and $18 per child age 6-12 (the price includes tax and service charge), with free admission to children 5 and under. Dance-only tickets may be purchased for $13 (adult or child). And since everyone loves to dress up, attire is formal.
Also, the annual buffet luncheon will be held on Sunday, May 27, immediately following the Graduation ceremony. Ticket prices are $24 per adult and $16 per child age 6-12 (the price includes tax and service charge), with free admission to children 5 and under. Having a delicious meal a few steps from the ceremony is cost-effective and convenient.
And because we know how proud you are of your Graduate, and how you want to brag on them a little, “Grad Ads” will be available for purchase in the Convention Program and Graduation Ceremony Program. We are working on details concerning those ads too, so check back soon.
Be sure to register early, and don’t forget to pack your tissue, Mom and Dad. You don’t want to miss a moment of the celebration as you proudly watch your graduate walk that aisle, celebrating all the hard work your family has put into making this day possible.
